NEW YORK—Announcement of
a completed emergency - vacua-
lion to Israel of practically all the
Jews of Cyrenaica was made by
Dr. Joseph J. Schwartz, chairman
of the European executive council
of the Joint Distribution Commit-
tee, at the agency's conference in
Pa ris.

He revealed that 6.000 Jewish
men, women and children had
been moved from the north Afri-
can province of Libya to Haifa.
and added that since the estab-
lishment of Israel a total of
34,000 Jews from north Africa
had been helped to emigrate to
Israel by JDC. These immigra-
tion developments were also re-
vealed:
1. Following the emigration of
1.500 Jews from Yugoslavia,
JDC's offices will close soon after
Jan. 1.
2. Emigration from Poland to
Israel is expected to resume next
month.
3. The JDC, which by the end
of this year will have brought
nearly 200,000 Jews to Israel,
must plan to bring at least 100,-
000 to the Holy Land in 1950.

At Shaorey Zedek

Declaring that the "anti-labor"
measures of the Ben Gurion gov-
ernment "turn the state of Israel
into a base of attack against the
Soviet and the Peoples' Democra-
cies," a local leader of the Jewish
Democratic Committee called the
Israeli premier a "traitor who has
harnessed Israel to the imperialist
chariot."
Renewal of the anti-Zionist
campaign was precipitated by the

rents of the week in Israel was
le decision of the national coun-
cil of Mapam, the opposition par-
ty. to accept Mapai's proposal
that it join the government coali-
tion.
The decision carried a provi-
sion that steps toward implement-
ing it will be taken "providing
negotiations for a program agreed
to by both sides on government
policy can be successfully con-
cluded." Mapam members of the
Knesset have been most sharp in
attacking the government's for-
eign policy.
A development which may
have a bearing on the Jerusalem
issue occurred when Transjor-
dan's representatives on the
mixed armistice commission sud-
denly asked for a postponement
of a meeting on Jerusalem that
was to have considered water and
electricity supplies for the Old

City.

BLUMBERG NAMED

Blast Renewed In
by Romanians

Jerusalem's quiet was disturbed
by a demonstration of religious
extremists, Neurei Karta, against
a Succoth pilgrimage to Mt. Zion
that was sponsored by the min-
istry of religion and the Jerusa-
lem municipality.
The followers of the ultra-or-
thodox group gathered at the
Meah Shearim quarter of the city,
where some of its members were
reported to have stoned club-
wielding' policemen. Two Rabbis
were placed under arrest.
Meanwhile it was reported by
Premier Ben Gurion that in re-
cent days the Israeli army car-
ried out extensive maneuvers. A
report by army sources disclosed
formation of a frontier force to
safeguard Israel's borders against
infiltration and marauders.
At the same time it was dis-
closed that the Arab Legion had
carried out heavy arms maneu-
vers in the area between Jeru-
salem and Ramallah.
