125 Children Consecrated at

By MITCHELL TENDLER
S0 NOW WE LEARN that in any
Detroit fans were displea sed
with the radio coverage of the
World Series.
According to H. G. Salsinger of
the "News," many letters were re-
ceived from Detroiters who w ere
"annoyed" at the description of-
fered by Red Barber and Mel
Allen.
Some of the things that ''ho th-
cued' Detroit I is-

Red Barber's un-
forgivable sin of
referring to his
colleague as M el

Hellmann or Ty Tyson woul
have reported: 'Here's the windu pl

listener would have known jus
what he meant. An old basebal
follower like myself finds th e
Barber trivia rather irritating.
In reply to that revolting bit o f
"reasoning," Mr. Battle, all w
have to add is that you are muc
old than you think.

JUST WHAT in the world is s
ecstatic about "here's the windup
. . . and the pitch," Mr. Battle
that you have become so enamor-
ed of it. and feel cheated if it isn't
repeated approximately four
times a batter, approximately
eight batters an inning, approxi-
mately nine innings a game, mak-
ing for approximately 288 "Here's
the windup . .. and the pitch's"
per afternoon of baseball!
Another Battle annoyance was
Barber's "Reese is two steps to-
,
ward third . . . The outfield is
playing this batter straight."
The very idea! We don't blame
you for being angry at that flag-
rant bit of sacrilege, Mr. Battle,
The very nerve of that heretic
Barber.
Every Detroit fan in his right
mind knows that one is supposed
to say "Reese is taking a short
lead ofT second ... the outfield is
playing the batter straight away"
or else the game doesn't go down
in the records, isn't that so, Mr.
Battle?

Marks Cultural Epoch
"For the first time, we find in
a cultural work of Israel full
harmony between Jewish culture
and that of the rest of the world,"
was the critical comment of Dr.
Chaim Weizmann on the occasion •
of the publication recently of the •
first volume of the "Encyclo-
pedia Hebraica."
Amplifying that view, Moshe
Weizman of Jerusalem, who is
in Detroit on behalf of the monu-
mental work, pointed out that in
the moments when the people of
Israel were working in peril and
ip war to establish the Jewish
State, they were at the same time
winning cultural and scientific
independence for the Jewish
mind.
