STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL

Raps St. Louis Police for Special Jewish Files

By PHINEAS J. BIRON
LT. ANDREW AYLWARD, head of the St.
Louis bureau on police records will have to do
better.
His explanation that Jews are not classified on St.
Louis police records under "White Americans" because
it facilitiates quick identifications of Jewish criminals
Isn't good enough.
It does not explain why Protestants or Catholics are
not earmarked by their religion. And
isn't it rather strange that that FBI
approves of Lt. Aylward's special
identification of Jews and their segre-
gation from the "White Americans."
The spokesman for the FBI com-
menting on the St. Louis formula
called it the "most progressive" sys-
tem and predicted that it would be
installed by police departments in
every city of the union.
An anti-Semitic police commission-
Huron
er would have an easy time in St.
Louis. If he were in a hurry to produce a Jewish cul-
prit, he would simply go to his files and pull out the
Jewish cards.

Since when are criminals classified by religion in a
democracy, Lt. Aylward?

THAT TILE NEW YORK "Jewish Review" will pub-
lish an Anglo-Jewish Daily, beginning Oct. 17, is
rather surprising.
The weekly "Review" features more errors and mis-
takes than any other Anglo-Jewish publication in the
country. Its editorial staff has never shown any
special talent for uncovering Jewish news or digging
up special features.
We are rather pessimistic about the chances of the
new "American Jewish Daily." On the other hand, we
feel certain that the Hebrew supplement of "Dos Yid-
dis•he Folk" official organ of the Zionist Organization
of America will be a big success.
Dr. Simon Bernstein who will be its editor is a great
Hebrew scholar and a first class journalist. Good luck.

OFF THE RECORD

Richard A. Yaffe formerly of the defunct PM reports
from Poland that about 25,000 Jews are ready and
eager to immigrate to Israel.

Yaffe also confirms that the Polish government will
facilitate their enunigration. So far, Poland is the
only country in the world placing no restriction on
mass emmigration and Poland is badly in need of
Jewish manpower.

The Jewish Congress Weekly article dealing with
books on Palestine is wrong when it says that "Behind
the Silken Curtain" topped them all with a sale of
120.000 copies and is still selling at a merry pace.
