Heads Campaign

Detroit's Memorial home is the
first such structure being built
in the nation. Actually the plan
for establishing a Memorial Home
originated in Aug., 1944, with the
organization of the JWV Me-
morial Home association, which
purchased the land on Davison
between Petoskey and Hohnur,
the site of the structure. The
building itself is being built in
conjunction with the Dexter
Branch of the Jewish Center.

By MITCHELL TENDLER

W

HAT STARTED OUT osten-
sibly to be a discussion on
local Jewish sandlot ball players
turned into a question of where
are the Jewish ballplayers!

We got together with Lou
Chess. a hardball disciple from
the word go, who
was to give us
the lowdown on
the Jewish ball-
players in the
Class B Federa-
tion league.
When we got
down to cases,
however, and
added up the
totals, the dearth
Tendler
of Jewish ball-
players was amazing. Using the
three leagues with which Lou is
himself connected, we discovered
that there was an overall total of
five Jewish ballplayers participat-
ing, with three of them in all
three leagues!

In mid-June the JWV Memorial
Home Association launched a
fund-raising campaign for the
Memorial Home, The goal of the
campaign is $105,000, which is not
a large amount, and can be at-
tained with the wholehearted
support of our Jewish commun-
ity.
