Only 2.500 workers in Tel Aviv
and Jaffa obeyed the general
strike order issued by the leftist
Mapam and Communist parties
to protest the lower wages de-
creed by the government in con-
nection with the campaign to re-
duce the cost of living.
The strike was regarded as a
complete failure. The executive
of the Histadrut opposed the
strike. •
In Jerusalem negotiations were
begun between the Israeli gov-
ernment and the Vatican for' the
purpose of establishing better re-
lations between the Jewish au-
thorities and the Catholic church.

Campers Stay On
at Country bay

Country Day Camp can still
take a limited number of camp-
ers during its second five-week
period starting Monday, Dr. W.
A. Goldberg, director, announced.

Camp buses pick up the chil-
dren at 8:30 a.m. and bring them
home in time for dinner. A hot
noon-meal is served plus a snack
