DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE Wohlgelernter Hails Day School Growth • The rapid growth of the day- school program of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah has shattered all pre- cedents in American Jewish edu- cation, Rabbi M. J. Wohlgelernter asserted in a report delivered Wednesday to the Yeshivah's new board of directors. The report climaxed Rabbi Wohlgeleinter's sixth year as president of De- troit's orthodox educational in- stitution. From a beginning in Septem- ber, 1944, with only seven stu- dents, he said, the Yeshivah day school this year had an enroll- ment of 236 and was forced to refuse applications for a number of classes because of limited facilities. It is now the largest day school west of New York and its rapid growth is unmatch- ed by any day school, he added. • • • MORE CONTINUE ON Thanks to the attractions of the school, Rabbi Wohlgelernter not- ed, a much larger percentage of children are continuing their education through the years of adolescence. He revealed that every boy in this year's 6th and 9th grade graduating classes will continue his education at the Yeshivah. Detroit's Jewish community is gradually becoming educated to the needs of supporting a Yeshivah, the report observed. This year's budget for the six Beth Yehudah schools was $200,- 241, the year's receipts $180,137. Though the deficit incurred during the day school's early rapid growth has been sharply pared, there is still an old deficit Reburial Held Dc Rothschild Is Dead at 81 PARIS — (Special) — Baron Edouard de Rothschild of the French branch of the famous banking family and a leader in French and world Jewish affairs, died June 30 at the age of 81.
