STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL

Assails Smugness on 'Denazification' Program

By PIIINEAS J. BIRON
E'RE TOLD THAT the American Jewish Congress
is satisfied with the results of its first Washington
contacts on the AJC protests on denazification in Ger-
many. Jewish Congress leaders ob- • • .. •11
tamed the introduction of a bipart-
isan resolution calling for denazifica-
tion, and we're willing to acknowl-
edge that this step represents an im-,
portant political action. But on the
other hand it would be indeed rather
naive to place too much hope in a
resolution so general in character.
The renazification and not the de-
nazification policy in Germany has
the full support of the administration.
It would require nothing short of an
Biron
earthquake to defeat this policy,
which is an integral part of the over-all foreign
polity of our State Department. A few mass meet-
ings might be more effective than polite conversation-
pieces on Capitol Hill.
Of course our State Department feels very smug
about the support its policy in Germany is receiving

W

from the "important Jewish leaders" in this country.
If the American Jewish Congress were serious and
determined about its denazification program its first
step would be to ask fur the recut of Harry Green-
stein, adviser on Jewish Affairs to the U. S. Army in
Germany, who has been fostering the impression that
Jews were satisfied with Gen. Clay's policy and to-
day's renazification program.

DETECTIVE SAM GOLDHUBER did such a swell
job protecting Dr. Weizmann on his last visit to New
York that the Israeli president offered Sam the post of
police commissioner of Israel. But Sam is an in-
veterate Brooklynite. He enjoys watching the Brook-
lyn Bums at Ebbets Field, and so Sam declined. Israel
is still looking for a good police commissioner.

THE SMOKE OVER THE battlefield of the last
Zionist convention is:slowly lifting. Petty rumors are
evaporating and many of the rank and file are regain-
ing their perspective.
In this repentant mood we read, the other day,
"Vision and Victory," a collection of addresses by Dr.

Me., a camp which emphasizes

through sports, decided to try an
experiment. Horowitz has fre-
quently said that there are no
bad boys, only bad parents.
It was his thought that if one
Gentile youth could live and
play with a • carnp full of Jewish
boys he would prove his ideas on
the importance of sports in cut-
ting down anti-Semitism. Horo-
witz was gratified when he re-
ceived a warm letter of accept-
ance from the Arkansas boy who
may take back to the south with
him next fall the story of a sum-
mer at a Jewish camp.

Abbe Hillel Silver, published by the Zionist Organiza-
tion. No one reading this collection of speeches will
doubt that the former president of the organization
contributed substantially to the political victory which
brought the Jewish State into being.
Silver's addresses are not only eloquent: they give
proof of sound and prophetic statesmanship. We found
them much superior in political wisdom and strategic
skill to any of Weizmann's political speeches during
that same period.
As a formulator of Zionist policy during challenging
years, Abba Hillel Silver deserves the recognition
which this book will bring him.

HOLLYWOOD IS PUTTING ON the finishing
touches to a super-feature dealing with the resistance
movement of the Jews against British imperialism in
Palestine. The film was made in California but had
the expert advice of one of Israel's top Irgun leaders.
We're told that British film circles are rather un-
happy about this film. Universal Pictures, the pro-
ducers of "Fight In The Desert" may hold back its
release in England. In America, however, the picture
•will become a box office hit. '
