AN EDITORIAL:

Crisis Is a Frightening Word

.13eth,o-Lt

Crisis is a frightening word,
In medicine, it connotes the change in a condition which
indicates whether the result is to be recovery or death.
Israel today is in the grip of a crisis. It seems incompre-
hensible. Just a few weeks ago, the infant State victoriously
blocked the onslaught of five formidable enemies. Only a few
days ago, the world paid tribute to this heroic new State by
Vol. 51 No. 18 047-7,N. a
admitting her into the United Nations.
Yet, this is the truth—Israel today faces a crisis. The in-
habitants do not have enough to eat and thousands upon
thousands live in filthy holes worse, i •qme cases, than the
vile DP camps from which they fled.
• If Israel fails to overcome the crisis, she can collapse and
along with her the dreams that seemed to have been realized
after 2,000 years of anguish and misery.
• • •
Heads Council
To avert collapse, American Jewry must intensify its sup-
port of the United Jewish Appeal. This campaign alone can
stave off disaster.
• If you are a worker of the Allied Jewish Campaign and
have not covered all your slips, would you want your con-
science to tell YOU that you are in part to blame for Israel's
crisis?
If you are a Detroit Jew and have not yet made a pledge
and written a check for the Allied Jewish Campaign, would
you want your conscience to tell YOU that you are in part to
blame for Israel's crisis?
We think not! Do your part, then, and do it today.
