Young Israel to Mark 26th Birthday in May

Youth Group Learns Crafts

Sunday, May 29, a cross-sec-
tion of the community will gather
at the Mayfair Room, to cele-
brate the 26th anniversary of
Young Israel in Detroit.
Charles T. Gellman, former
president of the group, and gen-
eral chairman of the anniversary
event, announced that at that
time the cantata "What Is Tor-
ah?" will be presented by mem-
bers of the many Young Israel
youth group., under the direction
of Cantor Nathan T. Adler of
W indsor.
Gellman urges Detroit Jewry
to participate in the organiza-
tion's anniversary campaign in
(ode: that the Young Israel
Youth Center can be completed
as early as possible so that the
many hundreds of boys and girls
in the Dexter vicinity will have a
"home" this slimmer where they
can relax in the reading and
music room, engage in athletic
and recreational activities in the
game room u: create items in the
art sand crafts work shop.
Assisting Gellman are Messrs.
Sam S. Novetsky, chairman of
the souvenir journal, and Morris
H. Berris, chairman of dinner
tickets and reservations.

At 8 p.m., Sunday, at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Platt,
the Young Adults of Young Israel
will hold a cultural meeting. The
meeting plans have been organ-
ized by Rabbi •Boruch Helfgott,
Leon Burg and Raye Robinowitch.

The gathering will be utilized
to welcome home former mem-
bers residing in other cities, who
have returned to Detroit for the
holidays.

Goren, Joe Medwed, Ida, Dora,
Meyer and Sam Mandelbaun,
Hermau Dzialowski, Mr. and Mrs.
Irving Krupkin and Rabbi Julius
Weinberg.

Hinda Penfil was appointed

slaysky left with her husband to
reside in Mexi•o City.
