UN Drafts
Plan to Rule
erusalem

(Special to Chronicle)
JERUSALEM—The UN Pales-
tine Conciliation Commission re-
vealed that it is going ahead with
plans for the internationalization
of Jerusalem despite Premier Ben
Gurion's fortright rejection of
such a scheme.
A commission spokesman said
that a special committee is draft-
ing a plan for UN control of the
Holy City in accord with the par-
tition decision of Nov. 29, 1947.
Dr. Alex Serup, Danish legal ex-
pert, is advising the committee.
UN DELAY NOTED
At Lake Success, the delay. in
accepting Israel as a full fledged
member of the UN by the Gen-
eral Assembly was attributed to
the opposition' of Israel to the
internationalization proposal. The
Assembly steering committee has
approved Israel's application and
has sent& directly to the floor of
the Assembly rather than to an-
other committee where it might
be filibustered to death by a
combination of Moslem states.
Of the 14 members of the steer-
ing committee, only three, Brit-
ain, Lebanon and Iran, the last
two Moslem states, opposed the
move to send the Jewish State's
bid to the Assembly for a vote.
Russia joined tfle U. S. in favor-
ing the move.
CONFERENCE IMPENDS
In the meantime, it appeared
that Israel and all the Arab
states would meet within a month
under the auspices of the UN
for conciliation talks at Lausanne,
Switzerland. The conference will
seek to extend the Israeli armis-
tice with Egypt, Lebanon and
Transjordan into a full peace.
A United Press dispatch from
Amman, capital of Transjordan,
quoted Brig. John Baggot Glubb,
known among Arabs as Glubb
Pasha, as charging in a bitter
diatribe that Israel had won Pal-
estine by "an invasion from

NEW YORK— (JWNS) —Cary
Grant, the movie star, told the
United Jewish Appeal in Los An-
geles that he is a Jew by both
birth and conviction and wants
to be counted as a member of the
Jewish community.
This revelation was made by
Louis Bieley, well-informed col-
umnist of the Yiddish "Ameri-
caner." Bieley said Grant accom-
panied his statement with a check
