Haifa to Study
Constitution

A symposium on "The Israeli
Constitution," conducted along
the lines of "Town Hall of the
Air" will be featured at the meet-
ing of Haifa Chapter, ZOD, Mon-
day evening.
Guest experts for the evening
will include Rabbi Sidney Aksel-
rad of Temple Beth El who will
discuss the religious aspects and
implications of the newly adopted
constitution, Dr. Joseph. Eaton,
pIolessor of sociology at Wayne
University, who will outline the
social aspects, and former Judge
James L Ellman, who will dis-
cuss the subject from the legal
aspect.
An open discussion period will
follow the talks of the guests,
Martin Hoffer, education com-
mittee chairman, will act as mod-
erator. The evening will con-
clude with a social hour. Re-
freshments will be served and
Mesdames Samuel Barr and Leon-
ard Perlman will serve as host-
esses.

Refugee Is Labeled

Al Atkins, who is waging a one-
man fight against the release of
Ilse Koch, will speak at a meet-
ing of the Beth Aaron Sisterhood
at 8:30 p.m., Monday at the Syna-
gogue, Wyoming at Thatcher.
. Atkins, a former RCAF flier,
was a prisoner for six months at
the notorious Buchenwald camp
and witnessed many of the
atrocities for which the "Beast of
Buchenwald" had a life imprison-
ment sentence commuted to four
years,
Emery Weinberger and Perry
Shulman, who spent their child-
hood at the infamous camp, will
also speak on the program. There
is no admission charge. Refresh-
ments will be served, Mrs. Jack
Raisin, program chairman, an-
nounced. Mrs. Sam L. Schneider,
is president.

NEW YORK—(WNS)—A Lith-
uanian refugee, alleged by a fel-
low passenger to have been one
of a group of Nazi storm trtopers
who threw him into a concentra-
tion camp, was sent to Ellis Is-
land for further screening by im-
migration officials after his arrival
here.
The Lithuanian was Albertas
Bauras, who was accused by Her-
man Borenkraut, a Polish Jew.
Borenkraut made his charge to
the officers of the liner, Marine
Falcon, two days after leaving
Hamburg. Both men and their
families were detained, the Bor-
enkrauts as witnesses.

Seeks $100,000

A goal of $100,000 to $200,000
to be collected from sources un-
solicited in past years was the
objective ' of the newly-formed
Auxiliary Trades and Profession-
al Division of the 1949 Allied
Jewish Campaign. The division is
recruiting workers.
A group of approximately 40
leadership personnel set the divi-
sion's organizational machinery
in motion by electing top officers
last week at the home of Mandel
L. Berman. Norman Naimark
was elected chairman; Allan Ap-
arage, vice-chairman for opera-
tions, Goldie Levinstein, vice-
chairman for staff, and Ruth Dra-
zin, secretary.
"The new division will be com-
posed of members of the Jewish
community who have been large-
ly active in the Junior Division
in the past and who have not
been entirely absorbed by the
regular trades and professional
divisions.
