The Jewish Chronicle is on the advance
again. We have moved to larger quarters,
but on the same floor of the same building,
from 2805 Barium Tower to 2827 Barium
Tower. We are gratified at the enthusiastic
response of our readers to the dynamic and
outspoken articles and editorials we have
been publishing. You can be of great help
to the Chronicle by telling your friends how
much you enjoy our paper and urging them
to subscribe. To save democracy in the Jew-
ish community, support the Chronicle and
you will be doing yourself a good turn.

Morgenthau, Montor Win
One thing is certain about the settlement
of the long protracted controversy in the
UPA. It will not bring the real peace and
goodwill that everybody has been waiting
for. The will of a large section of American
Jews, perhaps of the largest, in any event
of the most socially active and inspired, has
been violated too sharply not to call forth
an outburst of resentment and bitterness.
Victories such as that won by Morgenthau
and Montor have been known in history as
pyrrhic victories and they have never done
any good even to the victors. It will do a
great deal of harm to American Jews mor-
ally. It is to be hoped that it will not affect
European and Israeli Jews as badly in a
physical sense.

ment between Israel and Egypt and in pro-
moting armistice talks with Transjordan and
other Arab states. First he should be
that he was honest and strong e >ough to
abandon his illogical hostility to Israel and
his wavering attitude in the war days fol-
lowing the Bernadotte assassination. Sec-
ondly, he should be proud of the fact that
by his statesmanship and his diplomatic acu-
men he is bringing honor and respect for his
people. If the Israeli-Arab negotiations re-
sult in a conclusive peace, he will deserve
most of the credit. He can go down in history
as one of the greatest Negroes of the century.
We are truly happy that we can withdraw
the harsh words of censure we directed at
him at one time and substitute these sincere
words ofpraise for his accomplisments.
