Neumann and Silver
Get Vote of Confidence

NEW YORK (WNS) A resolu-
tion indorsing the policies of the
present administration of the Zion-
ist Organization of America and
expressing confidence in the lead-
ership of Dr. Emanuel Neumann,
ZOA president, and Dr. Abbe Hil-
lel Silver, chairman of the Ameri-
can section of the Jewish Agency,
was adopted by the overwhelming
majority of the estimated 800 dele-
gates who attended the all-day
special national conference here at
the Hotel Astor.
Voicing approval of the position
taken by the responsible officers
and spokesmen of the ZOA and of
the "policies they have pursues"
with regard to all f roblems facing
the Zionist movement in America,
including that of fund raising, the
resolution stated that "the Zionist
Organization of America in its
overwhelming majority stands
firmly united behind its dernocrat-
ically-elected leadership whose his-
toric services to the cause of Zion-
ism and Israel reborn will be for-
ever enshrined in the history of our
people."

demands he might be compelled to
resign from the Agency executive.
This was the implication from his
assertion "I am a member of the
Agency as of this day."
The afternoon session, under the
chairmanship of Dr. Neumann,
bristled with debate and tension.

their case. At the same time
he charged that the ZOA had aban-
doned its traditional policy of im-
partiality by aligning itself with
a political party in Israel right of
center.
He also claimed that the Pro-
gressive Zionists had stretched out
a hand of peace but that it was
rejected by Zionist leadership.
Louis Lipsky, speaking for him-
self and for the Progressive Zion-
ists as such, said the divergence
and divisiveness in the American
Zionist movement was not rooted
in personal hostilities but the re-
sult of an historical process which
ipso facto demands a new approach
to Zionist activity and thinking
not only in America but through-
out the world.
Those new developments, he
went on to say, make it manda-
tory that there be a change in a
Zionist leadership whic h, he
claimed, lacked the ability to ad-
just itself to the new historic pro-
cess. He accused the ZOA admin-
istration of suppressing freedom
of opinion and expression and of
supporting right of center parties
