"Abraham Lincoln" is the topic
chosen by Dr. Edgar DeWitt Jones
for his address from the Temple
Beth El pulpit at 8:15 p. m., Fri-
day, Feb. 11.
Dr. Jones is pastor emeritus of
the Central Woodward Christian
.Church, a past president of the
Federal Council of the Churches of
Christ in America and a past presi-
dent of the Detroit Council of
Churches. His book, "Lincoln and
the Preachers," has received wide
acclaim.

"When Israel Sings" will be the
topic of Rabbi Morris Adler's ad-
dress at late Sabbath eve services
beginning at 8:15 p. m.,, Feb. 11.
The sermon will be illustrated with
selections by Cantor Jacob H. Son-
enklar and choir led by Dan Froh-
man.
Rabbi Adler will speak on "An
American Saint" at Sabbath serv-
ices beginning at 9 a. m., in ob-
servance of Scout Sabbath. Scout
Sidney Klaus will be presented the
Ncr Tamid award.

on Polio Gets Backing

The March of Dimes Benefit
show sponsored by the Macca-
bees all-Jewish group, Matta-
thias Tent 1005, was an over-all
success, reported Al Magitz, pro-
gram chairman,
"Infantile parlysis was given a
body blow last week. A respon-
sive audience contributed warm-
ly to the fight against polio at
our show. We intend to make
this an animal affair with next
year's show a greater one," Ma-
gitz said.

Rabbi Kirshblum

Rabbi Max Kishblum, noted
Zionist and religious leader, will
be the guest speaker at the
Mizrachi Israel dinner, Sunday,
evening at the Shaarey Zedek.
In addition to his many Zionist
administrative functions, Rabbi
Kirshblum has traveled exten-
sively in Europe and Israel, and
has represented the ministry of
religion of Israel in vital nego-
tiations with clergymen of other
faiths,
Later in the program, life
membership certificates will be
presented to the 55 life members
enrolled by Mizrachi during the
past two months, Irving Schlus-
sel, president, will preside.

Awarded Fellowship

Dr. Jerome Horwitz will
assume his postdoctorate fellow-
ship duties at Northwestern Uni-
versity soon. He will make a
study of paralytic shellfish poi-
soning for U.S. governmental re-
search.
D r. Horwitz was recently
awarded his Ph. D. in chemistry
by the University of Michigan.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Horwitz of Decatur, Ill.,
formerly of Detroit.
