by the Sisterhood

Zionist leader, will be guest
speaker at late Sabbath eve
services, Dec. 24, of the North-
west Hebrew Congregation,
starting at 8:30.
His subject will be "What
Next In Israel." Sabbath morn-
ing services wil begin at 9, with
junior congregation worship at
9:30.

In celebration of Chanukah, the
Bnai David Sisterhood plans a
latke party for 8:30 p. m., Mon-
day, in the social hall. Mesdames
Joseph Rosson, Harry Katz and
Charles Jones are in charge.
Highlight will be an impressive
investiture service and candle
drill to be presented by Girl
Scout Troop No. 517 of the Syna-
gogue.

Services will be at 4:30 p.m.,
Friday, Dec. 24, and 9 a.m., Sat-
urday. Rabbi Joshua Sperka
will speak on "Vayayshev as an
Expression of Sorrow" at Sab-
bath morning worship. A Chu-
mosh class will begin at 3 p.m.,
with Mincha at 4 to be followed
by Sholos Suedes.

Bnai Moshe

The regular Sabbath eve serv-
ice, Dec. 24, will be at 4:30. The
Young People's Club will spon-
sor the late Friday night service
at 8:15, with officers participat-
ing.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman will
preach on Howard Fast's book,
•"My Glorious Brothers," and
Cantor David Katzman will
chant the prayers. An Oneg
Shabbat will follow.
Sabbath morning devotions
will be at 9. Weekday services
will be at 7:15 a.m. and 4:45
p.m.

The annual family Chanukah
Sabbath will be at 8:15 p.m.,
Friday, Dec. 24.
Dr. B. Benedict Glazer will
preach on "The Dauntless Spirit
of the Maccabees — Then and
Now."
Young People's Club mem-
bers, Virginia Barnett, presi-
dent; Albert Colman and How-
ard Freeman will participate in
the services.
A special program of Chanu-
kah and liturgical music will
be presented by the Temple
Quartette and a 35-voice, reli-
gious school choir, under the di-
rection of Mr. and Mrs. Jason
H. Tickton.
Following the services will be
a social hour under the auspices
of the sisterhood.

Rabbi Leon Fram will review
"My Glorious Brothers" by
Howard Fast at Sabbath eve
services at 8:30, Dec. 24, in the
Art Institute.
Chanukah music will be pre-
sented by Cantor Robert S.
Tulman, the Temple Choir and
the confirmation class choir.
Following a custom he estab-
lished at the Temple, Rabbi
Fram will devote his sermons
on the Sabbaths immediately be-
fore and after the New Year
to "retrospect" and "predic-
tion."
The religious school will be
closed the weekends of Dec. 25
and Jan. 1. Sessions will resume
Jan. 8 and 9.

"Plain Talk at This Season"
will be Rabbi Morris Adler's
. sermon topic at Sabbath morn-
ing services, Dec. 25, starting
at 9.

Mrs. Frank Friedman and Mrs.

sing. A grab bag is also planned.
Harold Silver, executive direc-

Yeshivah Annual

Plans Full Review
of School Activities

SPERKA TO SPEAK

David Pollack, president of
the Detmit fire commission, has
been named chairman of the
Beth Yehudah yearbook for 1949.
The periodical is issued in
conjunction with the annual pa-
trons dinner of the Yeshivah
which will take place March 27,
1999.
Long a member of Congrega-
tion Bnai Moshe, Pollack has had
an active interest in Jewish cul-
tural and educational activities.
Pollack, whose father-in-law,
Rabbi Moses Fischer, is chair-
man of the board of education
of the Beth Yehudah schools, is
particularly interested in the
progress of Jewish traditional
education.
Pollack revealed that he plans
to include a full review of Beth
Yehudah activities in the year-
book.
Last year the annual was dedi-
cated to the Yeshivahs president,
Rabbi Max J. Wohlgelernter.
Many testimonials were received
from city, state and education
officers acknowledging the cul-
tural contribution of the Beth
Yehudah schools to the city.
