Two days before the attack on
Iwo Jima that cost him his life,
Lt. Daniel Ginsburg wrote tp
Detroit friends:
"Naturally, I hope to return
safely, but in case I don't, it's all
right, too. After al}, we are only
little cogs in a machine, and if
some of us have to fall by the
wayside in order that the ma-
chine should continue to run
smoothly, it's worthwhile. It's
the machine that counts, not the
little cogs."
VICTIM OF SNIPER
On March 8, 1945, Lt. Ginsburg
"fell by the wayside," the vic-
tim of a Japanese sniper's bul-
let.
He was 22 years of age then
and a veteran of 20 months of
grueling combat duty with the
famous Fifth Marine Corps Di-
vision.
Lt. Ginsburg's body will be re-
turned to Detroit for final inter-
ment, Jan. 2. His parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Morris Ginsburg, of
7727 Mack avenue, invited his
relatives and friends to the re-
burial services at 1 p.m., that
day, at Lewis Bros. Chapel.
`REASSURE FOLKS'
In his letter, Lt. Ginsburg
urged his friends that "if I don't
come back, try to make my folks
understand that it isn't such a
tragedy—that their son is no bet-
ter than anyone else's son.
"I guess I haven't done much
in my short life," he went on.
"I haVen't learned very much—
just enough to realize that I still

and ability made nim beloved.
His outstanding work won him

In Detroit, the hero was the
leader and guiding spirit of the
Ilabonim, Labor Zionist youth
*group, and was nationally recog-
nized as a leading figure in the
Ilabonim movement in this part
of the country.
He was the prime factor in
establishing Habonim's Camp Ki-

by designing its buildings, but
by contributing the major por-
