Predicts Firewo rks in U. S. Zionist Circles

THE

ZIONIST Emergency Council is losing its lead-
er..hip by default. The American JeWish Congress
under the militant leadership of Stephen S. Wise is
doing the big job on the political front. It is the
Congress and not the Council that is whipping up
public opinion against the Bernadotte plan. It is
also the Congress and not the Council that is keeping
President Truman on his toes on
the Palestine issue.
Dr. Wise has cleared his desk and
intends to concentrate on Zionist
work. Notwithstanding his good in-
tentions he will find it difficult to
get a clear-cut pro-Israel policy
from our State Department. The

ticipation she will be bound to alienate one or the
other of the two power groups in the UN. Yet Ameri-
can Zionist leadership pretends that the admission of
Israel will solve all its problems.
The ZOA does nothing to educate the general pub-
lie as to the real meaning of the most recent British-
American move. That is why the opposition to the
Silver-Neumann leadership is seriously 'considering
launching a membership campaign for a separate
Zionist organization.
There will be plenty of fireworks in American Zi-
onist circles this winter.

WHEN ISRAEL WILL become a full fledged mem-
ber of the United Nations her political problems will
not become any easier—but rather more complicated.
Israel will have to take a stand on political issues that
are not directly connected with the Middle East and

WHY DOES TI1E World Jewish Congress suppress
the fact that the East-European members of the
World Jewish Congress executive have unto this day
refused to take their seats on the executive and that
they will continue to abstain until a representative
of the Jewish progressive movement will be co-opted
to the American membership of the executive.

THE AMERICAN Jewish Conference is being buried
with a minimum of publicity and a great deal of re-
joicing on the part of the American Jewish Commit-
tee and the Anti-Defamation League. And the Bnai
Brith is still talking about a memorial to the late
leader Monsky. A real tribute would have been a
powerful Conference.
Beigin, the former Irgun leader, now in this country
has obtained a substantial sum for his Freedom Party
notwithstanding his protestations that he did not come
here for fund-raising. Incidentally did you notice that
the ZOA did not dare attack the Ben Hecht group.
The reason was that Washington big political shots
told them to lay off. Our State Department likes the
Bergson l ies.
