was completed on Sunday when
all residents of Israel were ord-
ered by the government to re-
main in their homes from five
p.m. until midnight to facilitate
the taking of the census.

Bernard Joseph, Israeli military
governor of the city. Because of
past experiences with Arabs, he
could have no confidence in their
promises, Dr. Joseph said.

of the question, declared Presi-
dent Chaim Weizmann in Haifa
at a luncheon tendered him by
the City Council, in which Arabs

ed.
Dr. Weizmann again declared
that Israel would not give up the
Negev, since that desert area "is
absolutely essential to the devel-
opment of the'Jewish State,
"No force on earth can remove
the Jews from the Negev, short
of carrying them bodily — and
they are a heavy burden."
