Its purchase was greatly aided by a $1,300 contribution from the De- troit X-ray Sales Co. and by efforts of Jewish physicians of the North Detroit General Hospital who sparked he drive. A smaller donation of $100 worth of surgical instruments was made M the same time by the Randolph Surgical Supply Co. Another set of surgical instruments was contributed by Dr. D. 11. The meeting of the association and its new chapter was ad dressed by Dr. Shmarya Klein- man, chairman of the internal relations committee of the Jew- ish Community Council who told of his experiences on his recent trip to the DP camps in Europe Oscar Cohen, executive director of the Community Council, also spoke on group relations in De- troit and the role which can be played by the association. Jewish merchants in the Eight Mile road area have begun or- ganizing for communal service in the Negro neighborhood in which they do business. Under the leadership of Newman 11. Knopper, Morris Jacobs and Sam DeRoven, the group form- ally a0iliated itself with the East Side Merchants Association at a meeting Sept. 27. Meyer Silverman, president of the association, welcomed the new members to the ranks and appointed DeRoven and Knop- per to the executive board. The new group will operate as a chapter of the parent as- sociation and work chiefly in the Eight Mile area. It plans to carry on the same type of ac- tivities conducted on the east side.
