QUESTION: Do you think Is- rael should permit the 300,000 Palestinian Arabs who fled during the fighting to return to Israel? • BEN COLUMBUS, 2024 Phila- delphia avenue west, insurance agent. I think it would be foolish for Israel to permit the Arab refugees to return at this time. The war is still on in Pal- estine, and Is- rael cannot af- ford to trust a single A r a b. There un- doubted 1 y would be some fifth columnists among the 300,000 r e f o- gees. Also, the enemy Arab states could send in saboteurs in the guise of refu- gees. The return of so many Arabs would also- cause a severe finan- eial drain on Israel. CARL GOLDSTEIN, of 12753 Linwood avenue, pharmacist. I believe that Israel should permit the Arabs to return but over an extended period and after a careful screening process. Actually, these Arabs are natives of Israel and, as s u c h, should not be kept out of their country indefi- nitely. However, Is- rael must make certain that only Palestin- ian Arabs come in. These peo- ple haven't been particularly un- friendly to the Jews. The whole trouble between the two peoples was incited by the British who kept pushing the Arabs on. Dan Is a Victim of Broken Home; Can You Help? Broken homes are becoming so commonplace a news item that it is sometimes forgotten that each item may represent the deep, personal tragedy of a child whose security was de- stroyed when his parents parted. That's how it has been with Dan. Dan is a 12-year-old whose mother is unable to give him much attention because she has to work long hours to support herself and her son. The children's department of the Jewish Social Sorvice Bureau is seeking a foster home for Dan where he can live a healthy and happy life with foster par- ents who will give him guid- ance and affection. Dan is able to get along well with other boys, but right now he is confused because even a comparatively big boy of 12 finds it hard to keep a normal outlook without the assurance that he has a place to come MRS. In order to permit the 300,000 Arab refugees to return, Israel would have to make certain that they wouldn't resort to fifth Column activ- ities. Since this is impossible, i t would be bet- ter to keep them out. Be- cause the Arabs are at war with Is- rael, few o f them can be ealled friends of the Jews.
