FORTNIGHT AGO, this

I' column featured a resume

of the exploits • of American-
Jewish athletes in the 1948
Olympic
Games.
Since then,
t h e National
Jewish Wel-
fare Board has
compiled a
record on how
Jewish stars
from all coun-
tries fared in
the Olympiad.
Beckman It reports
that US different nations were
represented by one or more
Jews in 15 individual and five
team meets.
Broken down, the ledger
reads like this: United States,
17; Canada, 5; Hungary, France,
Denman:, -Holland and Chile, 3
each; Britain, South Africa, In-
dia and Eire, 2 each; and Aus-
tralia, Argentina, Czechoslo-
vakia, Mexico, Jamaica, Poland
and Italy, one each.

cluded Miss Micheline Oster-
meyer of France, who tossed the
discus 137 feet, 61/2 inches, and
the shotput, 45 feet, 11/2 inches,
for a double victory; and Ilena
Elek of Hungary, who captured
the women's foils, retaining her
1936 championship.
Another American triumph
brought to light by the . JWB
survey was that of Frank Spell-
man of York, Pa., who set a
new Olympic record in winning
the middleweight weightlifting
title.
We have already mentioned
New Yorker Henry Wittenberg's
conquest in the light-heavy;
weight wrestling joust.

BROOKLYNITE Saul Rogovin,

writing, which is surpassed by
only two others.
Besides boasting a strong
throwing arm, Saul also swings
a mighty bat. In a recent con-
