WAS just about de-
serted Labor Day weekend as
our socialites lit out for resort
areas to take advantage of the
last outdoor holiday of the year.
Now, we keep bumping into
glassy-eyed chums whose looks
reveal that summer romance
glitter. Some of these develop
into the real McCoy. The rest are
chalked up to experience.
Vacation snapshots will be ex-
changed with newly-acquired
vacation pals and friendly letters
written with the result that many
of our lads and lassies will prob-
ably Make weekend jaunts to
see what can grow out of those
acquaintances.
The ole snooper sprawled on
South Haven's sandy beach for
the holiday and it was mobbed
with our city folks. The Chicago
visitors were not even in the run-
ning that weekend. So, here's to
pleasant memories of the sum-
mer time.

Labor and Conservative parties
in England are also known to
be veering towards an under-
standing with Israel.

American Zionists' who were

among the chief proponents of
the anti-British trend among
Zionists, have also changed their
attitude since the proclamation
of the Jewish State.

Rabbi Silver and Dr. Neumann
have adopted a definitely pro-
gressive stand in internal and
external problems facing Zion-
ism and this includes also the
stopping of this "coldwar" be-
tween Jews and Great Britain.

Nobody but the Irgunists, and
temporarily the Communists, are
now interested in keeping up the
hate campaign against England,
which has poisoned the tradi-
tional friendship between these
two people.

Too Can Depend on Leader's Experts

A thousand children from the
pre-kindergarten age of four to
the high school age of 17 will
return to their classes at Tem-
ple Israel religious school Sat-
urday and Sunday mornings,
Sept. 18 and 19.
Temple Israel conducts its
school at Ilampto., public school,
18690 Warrington drive. Sessions
begin at 9:30. Parents are asked
to come with their children in
case of new enrollments.
The school is under the su-
pervision of Rabbi Leon Fram.
On the opening mornings, he
will greet the pupils at the vari-
ous assemblies, and will show
stereopticon views of the archi-
tect's pictures of the new build-
ing of Temple Israel about to
go under construction.
The Boy Scout and Girl Scout
troops sponsored by Temple Is-
rael Men's Club and Sisterhood
will participate in the opening
ceremonies. They will present
the flags of the U.,S. and Israel.

Kaufman Is Indorsed
in Civic Searchlight

The campaign for reelection of
James N. McNally as Wayne
County's prosecuting attorney,
reached full intensity in this
final week before the primary
as leading organizations renewed
their support of his candidacy.
"The 'open door' policy of
courtesy and services to all who
have dealings with the prosecu-
tor's office will continue so long
as I am in office," McNally said.

MRS. ROBERT A. COGGAN Is
chairman of the $75,000 fund-
raising drive of the Greater
Detroit Bnai Brith Women's
Council. The campaign will
culminate in a program, Nov.
22 at Masonic Temple. Pro-
ceeds will help Bnai Brith's
hospitals, its orphan home and
the Anti-Defamation League.

in bringing before their mem-
bers topics of Jewish interest,
the Jewish Welfare Federation—
through its community informa-
tion program—is again offering
speakers, films and other pro-
gram materials regarding major
areas of Jewish life, Julian Ii.
Krolik, Federation president, an-
nounced.
The topics are concerned with
Jewish culture and education,
refugee, anti-Semitism, t h e
Jews of Europe, Israel today and
tomorrow, problems of our
children, adolescence, problems
of our aged, mental health, rec-
reation and. the Detroit Jewish
Hospital.
Any organization or group
wishing to arrange for a pro-
gram built around one of these
suggested topics or an allied
one, is asked to call Mrs. Jean
S. Epstein at the Federation of-

Joseph Jones to Take
Legion Office Monday

Joseph Jones, charter member
of Michigan JWV, will be in-
stalled as vice-commander of the
Detroit district, American Le-
gion, Monday, at Memorial Hall.
Jones is a past commander of
Learned Post of the Legion, the
largest in the state. Ile is also
past commander of the Lawrence
H. Jones Post of the JWV,
named in honor of his brother.
