Assails Attempt to Dissolve
the Americans for Haganah'

NEW YORK (WNS) — Abra-
ham Feinberg, president of the
executive committee of the
"Americans for Ilaganah," in a
statement issued here this week,
declared that the decision to
dissolve the "Americans for
Haganah" on Oct. 1 and to cre-
ate a new organization "Ameri-
cans United for Israel" was "in
no way connected with any
ukase of the Jewish Agency or
the Zionist Qiganization of
America." •
Opposition to the establish-
ment of "Americans United for
Israel" was expressed last week
by the American section of the
Jewish Agency, which termed
the formation of this new group
"a flagrant defiance of the deci-
sion to dissolve 'Americans for
Haganah,' many of whose func-
tions the new organization in-
tends to absorb."

board of trustees of the uncom-
fortable conditions of work, the
board has not seen fit to accel-
erate proceedings
to remedy
these conditions.
"(The board of trustees has
not met once during the past
five months.) This implies a cer-
tain lack of interest.
"6. There has been consider-
able confusion and impairment
of efficiency resulting from .re-
versals on policy in regard to
the mechanics of work; these
reversals are due to impractical
and unrealistic thinking in pre-
parationi of these policies.

INVESTIGATION ON

"7. Because of the preceding
factors, and others, the quality
of service which the staff finds
itself permitted to render is be-
low that which is considered de-
sirable and possible in a Jew-
ish Vocational Service.

In demanding the dissolution
of the "Americans for llaganah,"
the Jewish Agency emphasized
that 'upon the establishment of
the State of Israel and the crea-
tion of a single unified defense
army," into which Hanagah has
been merged, ''the purpose of
'Americans for Haganah' have
been fully served."
The task of disseminating in-
formation about activities of Is-
rael's army of defense, it said,
"will in the future be carried
on by the office of information
of the Israeli government and
by the various Zionist groups
in the United States through
their official publications and
other channels of information."

'VIOLATES RIGHTS'

Feinberg's statement, pointing
out that "Americans for Ha-
ganah" was not created by vir-
tue of any "authority of the
Agency or the ZOA but was
formulated by
a
group of
Americans for a specific purpose
which was to disseminate infor-
mation concerning Haganah and
to rally support for Haganah
from the American public,"
stressed that to attempt to "sti-
fle or control" the formation of
the new group, which would
have a "broader scope of activ-
ity," purely on the grounds
"that it is not authorized by of-
ficial Zionist parties, or by the
government of Israel, is a vio-
lation of every basic right which
we have as Americans."

QUESTIONS AUTHORITY

Asserting that the status of
the Jewish Agency since the
end of the Palestine Mandate
"had not been clearly defined,"
Feinberg further questioned the
Agency's authority to order the
dissolution of "Americans for
Haganah."
Until the status of the Agency
is "fully determined," he said,
"the American section has no
right to assume powers which
have not been delegated to it."
