TIME: Thursday afternoon.
PLACE: Twelfth and Gladstone.
QUESTION: Many American
Jews propose that with the
establishment of Israel the
fast of Tishah B'Ab should no
longer be observed. Do you
agree?

MRS. MAX LETT, 1982 Seward
avenue, housewife.

Just because we have a State
is no reason fpr not observing

NEW YORK (WNS)—Aubrey
Eban, Israeli ,representative to
the United Nations, speaking at
a meeting of the American Red
Mogen Dovid for Palestine this
week, expressed confidence of
Israeli military success if the
new Jewish State is forced to
renew the fighting.

The George Gershwin Chap-
ter of Bnai Brith is planning an
old-fashioned box social and
evening of square dancing, open
to the public, Sept. 19 at the
Rose Sittig Cohen Bldg.
A board meeting of the group
was held recently at the home
of Marian Gorelick, president,
at which initial arrangements
were made for the chapter's
participation in the Bnai Brith
fund-raising affair.

Eban stressed that the Israeli
government wants a "stable
peace and economic coopera-
tion" in Palestine but, he said,
if hostilities are -renewed, Is-
rael is sure to be victorious.

To fully appreciate Israel, the
Jew has to remember the
hardships he went through to
get it.
Jews have
suffered great-
ly the past
thousa n d s of
years and they
just can't for-
get these hard-
ships. If they
did, they
would lose an
import a n t
part of their
tradition.
The fast of Tishah B'Ab
should not be given up. We
should hang on to these impor-
tant events and hand them
down to our children. Then they
will be more proud of their
heritage.
