NEWS IN NUT SHELL
I wonder how Mrs. Leib will
take the news about Sam's being
elevated to first vice-president
for District 6, Bnai Brith . . .
With his former job as member-
ship chairman, Sam was always
on the move thru the eight states
. . . and now this job calls for
double the traveling!
Joyce Lachnian's guest is Judy
Maltz of N. Y.
I accidently bumped into a
spot called Sandy Beach and was
surprised to see so many of our
clan there. Familiar faces 'bout
were Dolly Lublin, Eileen Kay,
Bev Trager, Bernice Sheplow,
Bev Charlip, Helen Nickerman,
Gail Resnick, Dorothy Strohl and
Jules Greenspan.

Mr. and Mrs. Max Lublin, of
19245 Parkside road, announce

Although the Detroit SOS
drive will again be a one-day
campaign, the SOS committee
here is already making plans for
the 1948 canvass in which they
hope to collect a half million
pounds of food and clothing for
overseas relief.
Mrs. Harry Singer, regional
chairman for Supplies for Over-
seas Survivors, has announced
that Sunday, Nov. 14, will be
SOS day in Detroit.
Meeting at 8 p.m., Wednesday,
July 21, at the Jewish Home
for Aged, the steering commit-
tee, under the chairmanship of
Mandell S. Berman, will set up
plans for recruitment, publicity
and other phases of the cam-
paign. Theodore Mandell will
handle mechanical processing for
the collection which in 1947
brought in 111% of the local
quota.
Supplies for Overseas Survi-
vors is a continual national cam-
paign under the sponsorship of
the Joint Distribution Commit-
tee.
Of the 800 committees partici-
pating in the 1947 collection, De-
troit set one of the finest rec-
ords, as volunteers from men's,
women's and youth's groups join-
ed in the house-to-house can-
vass of Jewish homes to bring
in more than 300,000 pounds of
supplies.
Among local groups whose
members have already pledged
to cooperate in the Nov. 14 drive
are the Bnai Brith Youth Organi-
zations, the, Junior Service
Group,. Masada and Chapter One,
