Friday, July 2, IMO The Voice of The Man in the Street DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE Aids Zedakah Club TIME: Thursday afternoon. PLACE: Dexter and Davison. QUESTION: Do you believe that the building of the Jewish hospital in Detroit should con- tinue to be postponed to give priority to overseas needs? M A X LANDGARTEN, 2491 Highland avenue, Ford parts employe. Detroit certainly could use a Jewish hospital, and it should start building one right away. Overseas needs will al- ways have top priority, so we can't use this as an excuse for not doing things within our own com- munity. Payments on the hospital could be made over a period of years. This way, not too much money would be diverted from overseas needs at one time. . MRS. WILLIAM HOROWITZ. 2981 Grand avenue, housewife. Although it is true that over- seas needs hold top priority, De- troit Jewry must not neglect things at home. A Jewish hospital is needed very badly, and it should be built . as soon as pos- sible, The campaign for a hospital has been going on for many years now, and a great deal of money has been contributed. There is no excuse to continue to postpone building operations. • MARVIN MARKS, 3034 Clem- ents avenue, Central High stu- dent.. A Jewish hospital is a neces- sity for Detroit. I know several Jewish persons, some elderly, who have been refused admit- tance to ho . spitals just because they were Jew- ' ish. I also know many doctors who are anx- ious to see a Jewish hospi- tal here so they will have t he facilities that are refus- ed them in other places. I agree that overseas needs come first. But if we keep post- poning the building of the hos- pital, it may never go up. HERBERT SELIGMANN, 13641 Dexter boulevard, house- wife. I believe work on the Jewish hospital in Detroit should be started as soon as possible. If we keep postpon- in g building operations, De- troit will nev- er have a Jew- ish hospital. It is true that overseas needs come first, but we should not ne- glect things at home. Many people have contri- buted toward the hospital, some as far back as five and six years ago, and they have a right to see something done with their money. WOMEN'S CLUBS Pace live LACHAR'S MRS.
