U. S. in the Olympic games at
London this summer is 31-year-
. old Henry Laskau, member of
the New York Maccabi Club,
who captured the 10,000 meter
walking race for the second
straight year.
In winning, Laskau crossed
the finish line 100 yards ahead
of his nearest rival, Fred Shark-
aga of the 92nd Street YMHA.
Laskau, who weighs only 135
pounds and stands five-feet-
eight, is a refugee from Ger-
many. He served as a corporal
in the U. S. army during the
last war.

Progressive Aid Society. Other
officers are Harry Gonte, vice-

Milstein and Sam Selikovitz,

Ben Gelman and Mrs. Leah

Initial plans are being framed
by the Greater Detroit Bnai Brith
Women's Council for citywide
fund-raising affairs to be held in
November, Mrs. Gerald Goldberg,
newly-elected president, announc-
ed.
Appointed by Mrs. Goldberg to
serve on the steering committee
are Annabelle Coggan, general
chairman; Goldie Gold, ads; Belle
Bloom, editor; Lil Aaron, arbitra-
tion; Miss Fay Zager, publicity;
Rose Manning, finance; Yetta
Yates, tickets; and Ann Gutter-
man and Evelyn Bruss, arrange-
ments.
The council is the coordina
body of all 15 Detroit chapter .
Originally, men's and women's
groups were under a joint coun-
cil, until Mrs. Charles Solovich,
now vice-president of the Su-
preme Council, foresaw the estab-
lishment of several chapters here
and took the lead in originating
the women's council.
