Civil War Heroes
Honored by Gift

NEW YORK—The heroism of
southern Jews in the Army of
the Confederacy more than 80
years ago has resulted in a con-
tribution of $1,000 to the United
Jewish Appeal to aid "in firm-
ly establishing the new land of
Israel."
The contribution was made
by Dr. W. D. Simpson, Green-
ville, S.C., department store ex-
ecutive, in memory of his fath-
er's Jewish buddies in the Con-
federate ranks.

Reburial Services Held
for Pfc. Irving Cohen

Reburial services for Pfc. Ir-
ving Cohen were held last week
at the Ira Kaufman Chapel un-
der the auspices of the Jewish
War Veterans.
Pfc. Cohen was killed in ac-
tion July 9, 1944, while serving
with the marines on Saipan. He
is survived by his mother, Mrs.
Jack Blitz, and one sister,`Mrs.
Alex Baker.
