We deeply regret that such a confer- ence was ever called. We are saddened by the report that men of the stature of Dr. Stephen Wise and Louis Lipsky continue to be among the leaders of the group. We do not believe that the \ average Zionist member understands or cares about the internal squabbles and rivalries of the Zionist organization. He does know and is very gratified by the fact that the policy of the present administration, a militant, anti-British, policy, was the one responsible for the victories in Palestine and at Lake Success, dubious as they may seem to be today. He is not ready to reject Dr. Neumann or Rabbi Silver for some nebulous "pro- gressive and native American program" in United States Zionism, whatever that may mean. This is the time for a united front by all Zionists. Surely, then, this is the time for solidarity within the ranks of the in- dividual groups. Moreover, many wise Jewish leaders are questioning the need for Zionist organiza- tions of the pre-Israel type at all. All an "apposition" party in the ZOA will do is fortify that viewpoint. DETROIT 26, MICH. Give Them the Tools Thousands of Jews in the DP camps look forward to the day when they can join Israel's army in its battle against the Arab invaders. • 4 They know the dangers of war, for they are among its most tragic victims. But even as bullets fly and bombs fall, they are willing to sacrifice their lives for a land that they have never even seen, a land which Co them is only a hope and a dream. The first contingent that left from one of the camps said: "We expect to die. Send our love to our relatives in America. Tell them to come and join the struggle." s. That is the fortitude of men of valor and of ideals. They do not need us to join them on the battle line but they look for the assurance that we are with them. ft, Above all, we must give them the tools They will do the rest. Let us not betray them!
