Other Cairo reports said that Egypt's forces were 27 miles south of Tel Aviv and had captured the coastal town of Al Majdal, but admitted that no well-fortified Jewish settlements had been attacked. To them goes most of the credit for the approval of the partition plan and the defeat of trusteeship. Shertok is the first foreign minister of the new Jewish State.
