' We are speak- ing of Herman Barron of White Plains, N. Y., who last week added to an already im- pressive record by walking off with the Good- all Round Rob- in tourney at Beckman New Rochelle, N. Y. Barron scored a plus 38 in his five rounds of competition against the cream of the crop. This means that he won 38 more holes than he lost in match play • against the 15 other men in the field. Herman took a first-day lead and kept adding to his margin throughout the meet. The vic- tory was worth $2,000. • • • Nahem With Phils SAM NAHEM, a Syrian Jew, has been added to the Philadel- phia Phillies' pitching staff. A relief hurler, Nahem was far from impressive in his first appearance against Brooklyn. He walked five and gave up two hits in the two innings he worked. However, he was much better in his next assignment, yielding ,but two hits in three innings Lgainst Chicago and receiving credit for the victory. Sam, now 31, had been pitch- ing for the semi-pro Brooklyn Lushwicks since he came out of the army in March, 1946. To make possible their intial reception, retraining.and resettlement, the United Jewish Appeal must have cash immediately. Most of this work in Israel is carried on by the United Palestine Appeal, which is supported by the UJA. Detroiters help this cause' through their contributions to the Allied Jewish Campaign. A variety show, "The World Is a Theater," will be presented by the dramatic group of the Rabbi Mandel M. Zazer Chap- ter, Bnai Brith, June 2 at Bnai Moshe.
