masses in the neighboring states
are bitterly opposed to risking
their lives and security for the
basically indifferent Palestine
Arabs.
Palestine's Arabs know what
to expect from economic unity
with a Jewish state. They do
not envy the economic status of
the Arabs in the neighboring
countries .. •

WALTER I,,IPPMANN has at
last spoken. He wants the Jews
in Palestine to live under an
Arab king.
He was silent during the
many years six million of his
people were turned into dust. He
ignored the grave tragedy which
had befallen the Jews we guess
just because he is a Jew himself.
Remember Sir Herbert Samuel,
former Palestine high commis-
sioner, and Jesse Strauss, Ameri-
can ambassador to Paris when
Hitler came to power? They too
were leaning backward.
Some years ago Lippmann was
sitting in a Broadway restaurant
with other celebrities. In came
an old Jew. Recognizing Lipp-
mann he marched over and
asked: "Do you remember me
from the days when your father
lived on Hester Street?" Lipp-
mann was greatly embarrassed.
Arthur Krock of the New York
Times too is Jewish but he tries
to hide le: What great moral
heroes the Krocks and the Lipp-
manns are.

AT ONE OF THE UN sessions
an Arab spokesman pulled a
boner while attempting to show
that the Arabs had made every
possible concession. While search-
ing for a simile describing the
extent of those concessions he
compared the Arabs with the
Parisian lady who gave all she
had.
"I can only give what I have
but no more," he quoted the lady
in the midst of derisive laughter.

THE RECENTLY convicted
Gen. Meyers is not a Jew. Ac-
cording to his own statement he
is Methodist born and raised.
William Zorach was recently
asked by the department of arch-
ives and history of the State of
Mississippi to make a life-size
bust of the late Senator Bilbo.
His reply was: "I could not
face the world if I allowed my-
self to make a statue of a man
who stood for the things that
Bilbo stood for." Mr. Zorach is
one of our outstanding sculptors
and a Jew. His book "Zorach
Explains Sculpture" was recently
published by the American Art-
ists Group. The book was hailed
as a most complete guide to the
full understanding of sculpture.

DR. B. BENEDICT GLAZER
NEW YORK—Seventy-one per.
cent of the American press in
editorial comment continue to at.
tack the United States adminis.
tration for its "futile policy of
refusing to recognize facts" and
for "lack of leadership," acco rd.
ing to the Twohey Analysis of
Newspaper Opinion. The survey
reports:
"Thirty-six percent of the
American press hold partition is
an accomplished fact precipitated
by British withdrawal and urge
the United States and UN to ac-
cept it as such and attempt a
settlement from that base.
"Another 35 percent regard the
lack of leadership as creating a
vacuum in UN. Mr. Truman's
remarks about his authority to
send troops without Congression-
al approval are damned by
percent as inept and stupid. .-e/
"Another 17 percent discuss
the rumor the U.S. is permitting
the situation to drift until the
end of the British Mandate, when
Britain, France and the U.S. will
take over as trustees from the
First World War, thus sidestep-
ping Russian participation.
"Only 6 percent approve this
and then only in a qualified
form, while the other 12 percent
told the situation will be out of
control by then.
