A poet of no little ability, Mrs. Sharfman is a regular contribu- tor to the Toledo press. Mrs. Sharfman's mother, Mrs. Rachel Pearlman; brother, Louis; and sisters, Mrs. Maurice I. Bale and Mrs. David Yaker, all live in Detroit. Workmen's Circle Concert May 16 Masha Benya, soprano, will be the soloist at the 15th an nual concert of the Workmen's Circle Chorus, Sunday, May 16 at Scottish Rite Cathedral of the Masonic Temple. Dan Froh- man will direct. Miss Benya, who has not been heard in Detroit for the last three years will present two groups of songs in Yiddish, He- brew and English. She will be the soloist with the chorus of 110 voices in Schubert's Can- tata, "Miriam's Song of Tri- umph." Edgar, promi- nent Detroit psychiatrist, has been named a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. His election was based mainly on his work in the field of neuropsychiatry. A graduate of Wayne Uni- versity, Dr. Edgar has been a lecturer at the Wayne medical school for many years. Miss Saper spent two years at the University of Miami and is now attending Wayne Univer- sity. Her fiance attended the Uni- versity of Kansas and received his degree at Wayne. He is a student in the Wayne medical school after spending two years in service. Completion of a quarter cen- tury of service to the Jewish community will be marked by Young Israel at a dinner May 23 at Shaarey Zedek. Part of a national movement of 70 branches, the Detroit group was organized in 1923 by a handful of young men and women. One of the major features of Young Israel work here is the sponsorship of clubs for boys and girls of junior and inter- mediate age. Trained leaders, supervised by Young Israel, conduct a full pro- gram of cultural and recreation- al activities for youth groups which meet at Yeshivah Beth Yehudah and in private homes throughout the Dexter-Linwood- 12th street neighborhoods. Acclaimed as one of the out- standing young electrical engi- neers in the country, Jerome Wiesner of Dearborn was pre- sented an honorable mention certificate by the Etta Kappa Nu Association at a meeting in Pittsburgh of the American In- stitute of Electrical Engineers. To qualify for the award, the candidate must be not older than 35 years nor be out of college for more than 10 years by May 1 of the - year for which he is cited. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Jo- seph J. Wiesner, of 4710 Green- field road, Weisner, who is an associate professor at the Mass- achusetts Institute of Technol- ogy, received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Michigan in 1937 and 1938, re- spectively. He was given an army-navy citation for designing and build- ing a carrier-current radio transmitter and associated studio equipment used extensively dur- ing the war. At present he also is a mem- ber of the staff of the Atomic 'Energy Commission.
