Soiree Is Slated

by Music Club

MRS. WILLIAM MILLER
Congregation Shaarey Zedek was the scene last Sunday of
the double ring ceremony uniting in marriage Leatrice Joyce
Gilbur, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gilbur of LaSalle boule-
vard, to Dr. William I. Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay J. Miller
of Hillsdale.
The bride's brocaded white satin gown was attractively hid-
den by a seven-yard court train which swept from her shoulders.
Her long-sleeved gown, with a fitted bodice and full skirt, was
heavily adorned with rhinestones. The fingertip veil of illusion
was held in place by a matching Juliet cap.
The bride I carried a large Star of David made of white
flowers and white satin ribbon centered with white orchids. Each
bridesmaid also carried a large Star of David in blue flowers
which contrasted with their dusty rose gowns.
The bridal party consisted of Mrs. David York as matron of
honor and Marcie Becker as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were
Marilyn Saffir, Delores Miller, Mairlyn Miller, Suzanne Miller,
Sylvia Peck, Dolly Lublin, Millicent Golden, Rose Miller, Lilly
Blum and Esther Freed.
Larry Miller, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
Ushers were David York, Donald Gilbur, Bill Gross, Dr. Seymour
Portman, Dr. Herbert Blum, Dr. Les Miller, Leo 'Becker; Norman
Peck, Fred Benderoff, Larry Benderoff and Arnold Sherman.
• Following the ceremony, dinner was served to 300 guests
after which Dr. and Mrs. Miller left for a honeymoon in Miami
Beach. They will reside in Jackson.

`Evening in Paris' Set
by Detroit Adult Club

Proceeds of the Detroit Adult
Club's "Evening in Paris" pro-
gram, to be held Sunday evening
in the Jewish Center, will go to
the IIistadrut, Martha Barnett,
president, announced.
The affair will be cabaret
style and will feature a floor
show, dancing and refreshments.

for Young Israel Affair

Nearly 200 guests packed the
Bereznitzer Hall last Saturday for
the Purim carnival of the young
adults of Young Israel.

The affair was planned dfor 100
people, Charlotte Kelman and
Harold Platt, chairmen, said. Be-
cause of its success, the carnival
will be made an annual event,
they added.

Sunday to Mark
the 'Opening' of
Club Northwest

The doors of "Club North-
west" will swing open at 9 p.m.,
Sunday.
Site is the social hall of the
Northwest Hebrew Congregation.
"Proprietors" are members of
the Young People's Club of the
Synagogue.
Dance music will be furnished
by Ronnie Fenton and his or-
chestra and the floor show will
feature Madelyn Bischop, mon-
ologist; Dave Metz, impersona-
tor of Al Jolson; Mel Sachs,
pianist; Gerry Harvey, song-
stress; Lew Pleasant, comedian;
and Ronnie Licht, vocalist.
Also on the program will be
the dance team of Renee Ager
and Alan Sipher. Leon Cohan
will be master of ceremonies.

21st Annual Party
Event of Tuesday

The 21st annual soiree of the
Music Study Club of Detroit
will be based on "A Night in
Tel Aviv," Mrs. Isadore Men-
delson, president, said.
The party is scheduled for
8:30 p.m., Tuesday, in the YW
CA, Montcalm and Witherel
avenues.
According to Mrs. Jacob Sauls,
chairman, the affair will honor
the memory of 'Bronislav Hu-
berman, founder of the Pales-
tinian Symphony Orchestra.

Announcement is made of the betrothal of Gloria Newman
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Newman of Oakman boulevard,
to S. Lawrence Morrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Mor-
rison of Buffalo, N. Y. Miss Newman attended Wayne University
and the William Greason Memorial School of Art in Detroit.
Her fiance received his B. S. degree in business administration
from the University of Buffalo. An early July wedding is
planned.
Mr. and Mrs. H. Ablitz announce the engagement of 'their
daughter Marian to Milton Bogrow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Bogrow. The wedding will take place in June.

]8,000 Women Bid
to Luncheon Series

Invitations went out this week
to the 18,000 Jewish women of
Detroit, urging them to attend
the Freedom Luncheon, sponsor-
ed by the Women's Division of
the Jewish Welfare Federation
in behalf of the 1948 Allied Jew-
ish Campaign, April 14, 15 and
19.
Three outstanding personali-
ties will be the speakers at the
luncheons. Robert St. John, no-
ted foreign correspondent, radio
commentator and author will
address all three events, while
IlaroId Katz, 26-year-old former
Harvard University student, who
left his studies to join Haganah,
will be -the second speaker on
April 14 and 15.
Judith Epstein, Hadassah lead-
er, will speak with St. John on
April 19.
April, 1948, has been designat-
ed as Freedom Month nationally,
in keeping with the traditional
holiday of freedom—Passover-
which usually falls in April. At-
tending the Freedom Luncheon
here will be contributors of a
minimum of 8365 on April 14, of
a $100 minimum on April 15 and
of a $36.50 minimum on April 19.
The first two events will be held
at the Hotel Book Cadillac while
the third will be at the Latin
Quarter.
Pointing out that these mini-
mum contributions can be made
up by savings of a dollar a day,
30 cents a day or 10 cents a day
for one year, the Women's Divi-
sion Campaign leadership, head-
ed by Mrs. Joseph H. Ehrlich
and Mrs. Henry Wineman, chair-
men, urged Detroit Jewish wo-
men to make these "Freedofn
Luncheons the occasion of vic-
tory luncheons—so that we can
feel that we have taken our fair
share of the responsibility in this
1948 Campaign of Destiny."
