QUESTION:* Can Hollywood
fight anti-Semitism better by
producing films like the
"Jolson Story" or like "Cross-
fire" and "Gentleman's Agree-
ment"?
DAVID H. ROM, 3041 Gladstone
avenue, produce buyer.
I think. movies like •the "Jol-
son Story" are much more ef-
fective in fighting anti-Semitism.
In fact, I be-
e that pic-
r e s like
"Crossfire" and
"Gentle m a n's
Agreement"
might increase
a n t i-Semitism
because their
themes are
are based on
the Unpopular-
ity of Jews.
The "Jolson Story" on the
other hand is a wonderful movie
about a great entertainer. It
shows how Jolson ; the son of a
Cantor, rose to great heights.
Jolson's parents in the film are
lovable persons, and the Syna-
gogue scenes are touching to
Jews and non-Jews alike.
MORRIS SHRAGER, 3729 Bos-
ton boulevard, dry cleaning
business.
I would recemmend tat Hol-
lywood pr od u ce films like
"Crossfire" a n d "Gentleman's
• Agreement".
"
These movies bring the 'prob-
lem of anti-Semitism into the
open and show
how foolish it
is to be big-
oted. They
have an educa-
tional value in
that they ham-
mer away at
the flimsy
foundations up-
on which anti-
Semitism is
built.
The "Jolson Story" is just
another film about a great per-
sonality. It has no moral behind
it.
