celebrated at Friday night serv-
ices Jan. 30 of Congregation Bnai
David.
Appropriate music will be pre-
sented by Cantor Ilyman Adler
and a choir under the direction
of llenry Siegal. "Music of the
Synagogue" will be Rabbi Joshua
Sperka's sermon topic.
"The Laws of Sinai" will be
Rabbi Sperka's subject at Sab-
bath morning services.
The Chevra Ayin Yaacov of
the congregation will hold its an-
nual Moss Chittim dinner at 7
p.m., Wednesday, in the social
hall.

CENTER HISTORY COURSE
Rabbi Harry Essrig of Grand
Rapids will conduct a five-ses-
sion course, "The Epic of Jewish

Mrs. Fred A. Ginsburg has ac-
cepted the chairmanship of the
hospitality committee of the JWF
Women's Division, Mrs. Irving
Small reported.
The puroose of this commit-

Temples to Honor
Dr. Baeck Feb. 17

Dr. Leo Baeck, 75-year-old
world leader of liberal Judaism,
will be guest of Temple Beth El
and Temple Israel at a banquet at
the Statler Hotel on Feb. 17.
His visit here is part of the
American Jewish Cavalcade, a
nationwide religious emphasis
program sponsored by the Union
of American Hebrew Congrega-
tions.
Dr. Baeck, upon his arrival
from England, was received at
the White House by President
Truman.
A survivor of two years in a
Nazi concentration camp, Dr.
Baeck was leader of the German
Jewish community during the
Hitler era. In 1996, he became
president of the World Union for
Progressive Judaism.

at a meeting of the Sisterhood of

Young Israel Host
to Eastern Rabbi

The fifth Friday evening forum
of Young Israel's adult education
program will be held Friday,
Feb. 6, at Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah, with Rabbi Shubert Spe-
ro, spiritual leader of Young Is-
rael, Brookline, Mass., as guest
speaker.
His topic will be "Mitzvahs—
the Method of Judaism."
Author of "The Story of the
Chasam Safer," "The Story of
Pesach" and editor of the "Pro-
gram Outlines for Youth
Groups," Rabbi Spero is at pres-
ent translating a Jewish history
from the Hebrew and writing
"Faith of a Jew," a summation
of the religious views of Mai-
monides.
Tilt forum will include a dis-
cussion period and will be fol-
lowed by an Oneg Shabbat at
which a Women's League com-
mittee, under the direction of
Mrs. Morris Subar, will serve re-
freshments.

Rabbi Abraham Shapiro, who
recently arrived from Europe, will
be guest speaker at the fifth an-
nual banquet of Yeshivath Cha-
chmey Lublin, Feb. 8 at Lachar's.
Rabbi Shapiro is the brother of
the founder of the Yeshivah in
Europe.
