Helen Waren's
Book Tells How
She Aided Jews

NEW YORK — The dramatic
story of a Broadway actress
who went to Europe in 1944
to tour in a USO show and
stayed to become a one-woman
underground f o r smuggling
homeless Jews into Palestine is
told in the book, "The Buried
Are Screaming," by Helen
Waren, which the Beechhurst
Press will publish in February
The author, Miss Waren, was
guest speaker at a rally Jan. 4
which officially launched the
1948 campaign of Detroit His-
tadrut.
She was one of the first civil-
ians to enter Germany after
V-E Day. The plight of the
homeless Jews she found there,
she says, was the start of her
daring work of getting persons
"illegally" into Palestine.
