Histadrut Charts Conference

4 Youth Groups
Join for Forum

Youth groups of Shaarey Ze-
dek, Temple Beth El, Temple
Israel and the Northwest He-
brew Congregation will join
for the second in the series
of monthly "Youth Speaks"
forums.
"Youth Speaks" will be held
at 7:45 p.m., Wednesday, in
Ilampton school, Curtis and
Pickford avenues.
Shaarey Zedek will oppose
Northwest in a -debate on the
topic, "Should We Have Com-
pulsory Religious Education in
Our Public Schools?" and an
%open discussion will 'follow.
A social hour of dancing and
refreshments, with Temple Is-
rael acting as host, will com-
plete the evening.

.Julius Rings hosts
to Refugee Youth

Guest of Mr. and Mrs._Julius
Ring of Clements avenue last
week was Manfred Krolik, 16,
Polish - Belgian refugee, who
came to visit his brother and
sister, Max and Rosa, 19 and 14,
respectively, who are making
their home with 'he Rings.
Manfred lives in New York
with a brother of Mrs. Ring.
The children are the sons and
daughter of another brother,
who fell a victim of Hitler.
During the Nazi terror, Man-
fred was separated from his
family but was saved through
the mediation of Christians and
was eventually assisted to reach
America with the aid of the
Quakers.

Branch 5, LZOA,
Plans Symposium

Members of Branch 5, LZOA,
will hear a symposium on the
"Effect of Current Palestine De-
velopments on the Lowdermilk
Plan" at a meeting Tuesday in
the home of Helen Kahn, 2691
Gladstone avenue.
Louis Gelfand, chairman of
the Detroit Technion chapter,
and Dave Borodawkin of Branch
5 will participate in the round
table.
Chairman Joe Epel said the
discussion will be based on a
report made by Dr. Lowdermilk
in Detroit Saturday.

Bnai David Sisterhood
Host to Men's (lob

Members of the Bnai David
Men's Club will be guests of the
sisterhood at 8:30 p.m., Monday.
A comedy dramatization will
be presented by Chapter No. 11,
Bnai Brith Young Men.

Dinner on Monday to Honor
Rabbis Hershman and Adler

Two preenunent members oT
the Detroit Rabbinate will be
honored Monday.
At 6:30 p.m. that evening, tri-
bute will be paid to Dr. A. M.
Hershman and Rabbi Morris Ad-
ler; spiritual leaders of Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek, at a tes-
timonial dinner being held in
conjunct i on with the $100,000
fund drive for the Jewish Theo-
logical Seminary of America.
Abraham Srere is chairman of
the banquet.
Guest speaker will be Dr. Si-
mon Greenberg, provost and
professor of education at the
seminary.

With close to $60,000 reported
at the end of the first week of
solicitation in the 1948 Hista-
drut (Geverkshaften) campaign
for $250,000, workers and af-
filiated groups are intensifying
their efforts to cover all pros-
pects in the next four weeks.
Abba Ilushi, founder of the
Palestine-Arab League, told 300
campaign workers at the first
campaign rally that the Ilista-
drut looked to American Jews
for immediate aid.
The Yishuv, with the help of
specially trained men of the
Histadrut working among the
Arabs and familiar with their
plans, is certain that the Arab
peasants and workers will re-
main friendly to the Jews, he
said.
Harry Grossman, of the Kadi-
mah Social Club, reported that
his club, which already had its
special Histadrut evening, has
pledged $1,500 as against $500
the previous year. I. Kolodney,
