QUESTION: Do you trust Rus-
sia in its apparent friendliness
toward the establishment of
the Jewish State?
MRS. WILLIAM SHAPIRO, 18960
Kentucky avenue, housewife.
History has shown that no na-
tion can be trusted completely,
regardless of what its outward
policy may be. Russia is no
exception.
It is true that •,.„

Howevet, I still think Russia
hopes to gain something by this
action, that it is attempting to
strengthen its position in the
Middle East.
The Labor Zionist movement
has officially named Nov. 29 as
"Palestine Independence Day"
and will hold nationwide cele-
brations annually on that day,
said Morris Lieberman, chair-
man of the Detroit Central
Committee of LZO.
On the day of the UN's an-
nouncement proclaiming a Jew-
ish State, members gathered at
the Labor Zionist Institute and
celebrated with song and dance.
"From now on, we cannot
permit our effort.; to let up."
Lieberman said. "Zionists will
be called upon for unprecedented
sacrifices, and the labor move-
ment will be ready to carry out
all that is necessary to insure
the success of the Jewish State
in Palestine."

Yes, I think Russia can be
trusted. Since the war the So-
viet has assumed a friendly
attitude towards the Jews with-
in its country, giving them op-
portunities and
r' condeming an-
ti-Semitism.
Russia has
suffered great-
ly as a result
of the last war.

Her policy
toward the Jews, I think, is
based solely upon humanitarian
reasons. Russia may be selfish
in her other actions, but I do
not think she is in regards to
the Jewish problem.

There is only one country I
trust and it is the United States.
Since the war, Russia has stood
in the way of anything that is
not completely to her advantage.
There is no
reason t o b e-
lieve that she
would change
her policy in
respect to Pal-
estine.
Russia has
not shown
what her mo-
tives in the
Middle East
may be. I
think she wishes to get Britain
out of Palestine and to place the
Jews and Arabs under her in-
fluence.

we have to become alarmed over
what she may 'do there.
Russia is, like
all other na-

to get as many
friends as pos-

she will want
