Joy replaces despondency as doors to Eretz Israel loom closer for these Jewish displaced
persons. They look forward to leaving the barbed wire of their camps for the freedom of
Palestine now that a Jewish State has been established. In the meantime, more than 1,000
American and Jewish leaders, spurred by the history-making UN decision on Palestine, were
scheduled to meet in Atlantic City for a four-day national conference of the United Jewish
Appeal to take decisive action on the mass resettlement of Europe's homeless Jews in the
reborn Jewish State. Outstanding national and international leaders who will address the con-
ference include Gen. Joseph T. McNarney, former commander of U. S. forces in Europe; Maj.
Gen. John II. Ililldring, member of the U. S. delegation to the UN General Assembly; Dr.
Chaim Weizmann, former president of the Jewish Agency.
