Congress Leaders
Hail Jewish State

UN Police Force
Urged by Senator

WASHINGTON--Senators and ,
congressmen spoke out loud
with praise for the United Na
tions decision to establish a
Jewish State.
In the Senate, Senator Wayne
Morse lauded the UN vote and
called for the establishment of
a UN police force to keep law
and order in the Holy Land
following the British evacua-
tion of troops. He warned, how-
ever, that the U. S. must not
be "maneuvered into a posi-
tion where American boys un-
der an American flag will be
called upon to enforce some de-
cision of the UN."
Senator Owen Brewster, as-
serting that the U. S. had as-
sumed "a considerable measure
of responsibility" as a result of
the Palestine decision, suggested
the creation of a volunteer di-
vision of U. S. Army person-
nel to "be sent whereever the
President felt necessary."
Senators Alben W. Barkley,
Charles W. Tobey, Leverett
Saltanstall, Denis Chavez and
Scott Lucas hailed the decision
as "the best possible solution
under the circumstances" and
called upon the Arabs to abide
by the UN plan.
In the House Rep. Arthur G.
Klein of New York asserted
that the just Palestine decision
could be attributed in great
part to the efforts of President
Truman and Rep. Joseph K. Ja-
vits of New York appealed to
Great Britain to effect "an or-
derly turnover" of Palestine to
the UN Commission.
Following a courtesy call to
the White House, Dr. Oswaldo
Aranha, president of the United
Nations General Assembly, ex-
pressed the hope that the par-
titioning of Palestine would "be-
come one of the greatest factors
for stability in international-re-
lations." At the same time Pe-
ter A. Bergson, chairman of
the Hebrew Committee of Na-
tional Liberation, asserting that
his organization would never ac-
cept partition, called upon the
U. S., nevertheless, to provide
the means of transporting 250.-
000 DP's to Palestine within
the next three months.

Kansas City, was honored in
farewell events by the Federa-
tion board of governors, the
boards of directors of the Wo-
men's Division and of the De-
troit Service Group and the
Federation agency executives
and staff.
"While we are happy that
another community has recog-
nized Sudran's ability in in-
viting him to head its welfare
fund," Krolik said, "we of De-
troit will miss his outstanding
leadership and conscientious
service."
