Frank L. Weil, president of JWB, which since 1917 has been officially accredited by the gov- ernment to serve Jews in the armed forces, said that JWB's 1948 budget of $1,477.800, ear- marks $437,575 for this work. Although the USO program, in which JWB participated from the beginning of the national emergency, ends at the close of this year, Weil said the need to serve Jews in the armed forces and Veterans Adminis- tration hospitals continues, and from now on it will have to be financed wholly by JWB." JWB's peacetime army and navy program, serving 200 in- stallations and hospitals and to be administered by a field staff of 16, will have the aid of the 309 Jewish Community Centers affiliated with JWB, who will provide facilities and programs and of 250 local army and navy committees.
