Overstreets to Be Speakers
pct NCJW Opening Meeting

An "Overstreet' program will
mark the opening meeting of
Detroit Section, National Coun-
cil of Jewish Women, at 12:30
p. m., Monday, at the Jewish
Community Center. Dessert
luncheon will be served.
Bonaro Wilkinson Overstreet,
teacher and writer noted for her
studies of human behavior, and
Dr. Harry Allen Overstreet, who
is renowned for his pioneering
work in the field of adult educa-
tion, will compose the popular
husband and wife team who will
be the speakers. "Recognizing
the Permanent in a Changing
World" will be their subject.
Mrs. Maier B. Finsterwald
heads the program committee,
and Mrs. David Marx is chair-
man of the social hour commit-
tee.
Mrs. Harry Cohen and Mrs.
M. L. Rosenthal, co-chairmen of
the membership committee, and
Mrs. Melvin Kopple, chairman
of the courtesy committee, will
be at the door to welcome new
members.
Mrs. M. E. Arden will regis-
ter volunteers for any activity.
After the meeting, Mrs. Her-
bert M. Smith, president, and a
delegation of eight directors will

leave for the' Mid-Eastern Con-
ference of NCJW in Cleveland
Nov. 4-6.

B. Daniels, William II. Frank,
Joseph Geschelin, David Marx,
M. L. Rosenthal, Benn Shway-
der, and Miss Pearl Devenow.

A substantial part of the DP problem can be solved by opening up increased
Jewish immigration to Palestine. Such a program under the direction of the
United Nations should be supported by every thinking American.
Our immigration laws should be amended fo provide proper safeguard to
screen out those who do not tit in with our form of government and our
way of life.
Congress convenes on November 17th. Write your Congressman asking for
amendment of present immigration laws to allow DP immigration.

In Jerusalem, it was announc-
ed that the Jewish National
Council has established a legal
department for the purpose of
drafting a constitution and civil
criminal codes for the projected
Jewish state. The department is
headed by Dr. Zerach Warhaf-
tig. of the Labor Mizrachi.
The Jewish Agency expressed
satisfaction with a statement by
High Commissioner Sir Alan G.
Cunningham that the govern-
ment would be responsible for
the maintenance of law and or-
der until Britain surrendered
the Mandate.
