Arab Higher Committee Threats

HOW MUCH MORE LAND DO THE ARABS NEED
I question your authority to
appear before the United Na-
tions as spokesmen for the Pal-

a self-appointed committee, by

mon people. However, since you
have been given a voice before

istic army of Jewish youth. The
Egyptian army consists of 22,000
ill-armed and ill-trained con-
scripts. It is without armor,
without an airforce and without
a. single submarine or other
warship.
As far as Iraq is concerned, it
took only two battalions of
British troops to suppress the
pro-Axis military putsch 9f the
Rashid Ali government. As for
the army of Saudi Arabia, the
desert horsemen of Ibn Saud
might have been an effective
force in the days of Mohammed.
Today they could be dispersed
by a single squadron of planes
long before they reached the
lands of the fertile crescent.
As to Syria, it took the in-
tervention of Great Britain to
drive out the small French
troop in Syria, and as far as
Transjordan is concerned, it has
no army except as it is con-
trolled by the British govern-
ment.

CLAIMS NOT BACKED
THUS IT IS OBVIOUS that
your threats are idle and that
your claims to Palestine are un-
substantiated. What, then, is
your real reason for an oppo-
sition to a Jewish Palestine? It
certainly is neither religious
nor political, but rather social
and economic.
The Arab population of Pal-
estine is negligible in compari-
son with the vast number of
Arab elements in North Africa
and Asia.
You Arab chieftains did not
arouse the Moslem world
against Mussolini's regime in
Libya; on the contrary, you
were greatly honored guests in
Rome.
You rich Arabian landowners
did nothing to improve the
nature, the civilization or the
living standards of the people
in your countries. Your large
Arabian states are under-popu-
lated and the masses of your
people are held in a backward
and inferior condition.
You big effendis fear the ex-
ample and the impulse which
the Jewish colonization of Pal-
estine presents to the people of
the Near East.
You resent the social and eco-
nomic uplift of the Arabian
workers in Palestine. You act
as all Fascist forces have acted.
You scream your fear of social
reform behind nationalistic slo-
gans and demagoguery. If it
were not for you so-called lead-
ers and instigators I have no
doubt that perfect agreement
and cooperation could be
achieved between the Arab and
Jewish people. But all that
would be at the cost of your
great harems and fat bellies.
