Leading Soviet Horseivoman

The Palestine problem is illustrated with stark reality in this picture taken at Poppendorf
internment camn at Luebeck, Germany. Inside a barbed wire enclosure a man teaches his
tiny daughter to take her first stens. Behind the barbed wire are the 4,500 Jews from the
Exodus who were turned back from Palestine by British troops, following a battle in which
scores of men, women and children were inju red. The Jews refused to embark at France,
and were put ashore by force. They were then taken to Hamburg, and put in a concentra-
tion camp near Belsen, which a short time ag ) was a scene of Nazi horror and brutality.
