DETROIT JEWISH CHRONICLE

Cowl calls Owners
of 12th Street Property

To dispel rumors of vast changes
in the character of the Twelfth
street area,. the Jewish Commu-
nity Council has called a meet-
ing of property owners in the
section for 8:30 p.m., Thursday,
Oct. 9 at the Hutchins School.
Problems which have arisen as
a result of the rumors will he
discussed at the meeting, Oscar
Cohen, executive secretary of the
Council,. said. Aaron Droock,
Council president, and Fred M.
Butzel will address the assembly.
Rabbi Max J. Wohlgelernter will
preside.

DEALERS ACCUSED
Myths about a great influx of
Negroes in the neighborhood are
being deliberately spread by un-
scrupulous real estate dealers,
Cohen charged. They hope to
frighten home owners into sel-
ling their property at relatively
low prices, he declared.
It has been found by— national

agencies that when panic selling
taker place, it drives down values
for a flnie, he pointed out, ad.
ding that experience in other
cities has been that prices re.
cover thereafter often at much
higifer levels than before.

ETIIICAL PROBLEM
"The. Community Council is
working for peaceful relations in
the neighborhood between old
and new residenti," Cohen de-
clared. Besides the question of
property involved, the Council is
also.• concerned with •the ethical
aspects of the problem. It ill be-
conies Jews, . who are themselves
the victims of false•propaganda,
to believe unfottuded stories
about another minority. group.
"The Council hope that those
men iaer$ of the 'Jewish commu-
nity who live . in the area will so-
conittiet tiwniSeIves in this situ-
ation -as. ,to bring r credit , to all
Jewiy." •
