derson and his terrific band will
entertain at the Masonic.
Coming up on Oct. 5 is a
play, with dancing following, at
the Mich. Showman's Association
with Monte Korn (CA. 1647)
and Bill Goll (TY. 5-5559) in

fall social a success.

Community Council Message
Deplores Exodus' Tragedy

The Jewish Community Coun-
cil has adopted the following
statement with respect to the
tragic events surrounding the
return of the "Exodus 1947"
refugees to Germany. Copies
have been sent in letters to
President Truman, Secretary of
State Marshall and Senator Van-
denberg.
"The Jewish Community of
Detroit, in learning of the events
surrounding the interception and
subsequent return of the "Ex-
odus 1947" refugees, shares the
kind of frustration and exas-
peration that must be felt by
Europe's wanderers who seek to
rebuild their lives in a secure
environment.

WORDS INADEQUATE
"At long last, words of pro-
test seem inadequate to express
the revulsion and shock that we
have felt. The humiliation to
which these people have been
exposed marks not only the un-
intelligence of their tormentors,
but the callousness of the world's
conscience.

"The degradation of a people
whose only sin is their origin,
and whose only crime is their
homelessness, must remain un-
warranted in the sight of God
and man.
"In the whole sordid scene,
we have been heartened only by
the courageous voice of the
United States State Department,
which has been raised on be-
half of the 'Exodus' refugees.
PRAY FOR HUMANENESS
"As we gather in our congre-
gations to do honor to the Al-
mighty during our forthcoming
High Holy Days, we shall pray
fOr the strengthening of this hu-
mane influence—even as we be-
seech the restoration of spiritual
values to a world which has
been brutalized and calloused by
years of bloody conflict.
"We shall abide also with the
hope that an equitable solutioltio .
may soon be reached to the Pa
estine problem, and that pending
such solution, a suitable haven—
certainly not the infamous con-
centration camps—be found for
the 'Exodus' refugees."
