An Open Letter:

Senator Vandenberg Is Rhone('
to Indorse UN Report on Palestine

Dear Senator Vandenberg:
Your long and distinguished
public career has brought you
many rewards of esteem. The
most recent tribute paid to
you as a statesman was that of
the Inter-American Conference
at Rio only last week.
It is because of your states-
manship, your high principles
and your ability to see goals
from afar, that we write you
this open letter.
Twice in our lifetime the
world, through its representative
bodies, has recognized the need
and the importance of Jewish
Statehood. The first time ap-
proximately 25 years ago, the
econd time, just a few days ago.
On both of these occasions
Palestine was selected as the
Jewish State except that the
recent committee, by reason of
circumstances which are beyond
the scope of this letter to ana-
lize, whittled down the area
that the Jewish people are en-
titled to.

that you, the chairman of the
Foreign Relations Committee,
the statesman that you are, come
out with a forthright declara-
tion NOW on your position on
this question as you have on
previous occasions done on other
matters.
There is no question in our
mind that the position you take
would carry the greatest weight
and would counterbalance any
power politics that may be
played within the State Depart-
ment.
We know that you have been
a friend of the Jewish cause and
that you have expressed your-
self in favor of a Jewish State
and have even spoken in favor
of a compromise solution.
You know, too, that our gov-
ernment from Wilson on, and
our Congress, have taken a posi-
tive attitude toward the estab-
lishment of a Jewish State.
Consequently any expression by

having led the way toward en-
lightened thinking and a step
closer toward the establishment
of world peace.
Not only Jewish opinion but
public opinion would definitely
be on your side, Mr. Senator, as
has been proved by the various
polls taken in recent years.
What is most important, the
conscience of the world will owe
you a great debt of gratitude.
Sincerely yours,
S. T.

Walter Field Cites
Benefits of Fund

Walter Field, vice-president of
the Zionist Organization of De-
troit, in a recent statement
pointed out that the Palestine
Immigration Bureau, a bene-
ficiary of the ZOA Expansion
Fund, facilitated the entry of
17,000 Jews into Palestine dur-
ing the war years.
In emphasizing the need for
increased funds, Field said:
"Your contribution to the ex-
pansion fund will help masses of
new immigrants to establish
homes in Palestine." He ex-
plained that continued support
was essential to facilitate set-
tlement of European Jews.
Realizing that ZOA faces a
year of increased responsibility,
Abe Kasle and Louis Berry, ex-
pansion fund chairmen, are
pressing for adequate funds to
carry on their work.
