Plan Swift Action
in UN Emergency

The Zionist Council of Detroit
will be prepared to take swift
and effective action to assure a
united response from Detroit
Jewry in case an emergency
arises during the UN Assem-
bly meeting, as a result of a
decision by the Council last
week.
Rejecting a mass protest meet-
ing as ineffectual, the Council
accepted a suggestion by Sey-
mour Tilchin, ZOA district sec-
retary, that an automobile pa-
rade be held and that the pos-
sibility of a general work stop-
page and closing of shops from
2 to 5 p.m. one afternoon be
studied.
SAMPLE RESPONSE
Tilchin and his committee will
sample opinion of the Jewish
community to ascertain if the
work stoppage protest will be
agreed to by a sufficient num-
ber of business owners to make
the protest successful.
Cooperation of all Jewish or-
ganizations in the city will be
sought if the investigation shows
a favorable response to the plan.
Benjamin M. Laikin was unan-
imously reelected president of
the council at the annual elec-
tion. Named as vice-presidents
were William Hordes, Mrs.
Samuel J. Greenberg and Irving
Schlussel.
OTHER OFFICERS
Harry Schumer was elected
treasurer; Mrs. Anne Baker
Zuckman, secretary; and Molly
Tron, recording secretary.
The following were chosen for
the executive committee: Nor-
man Leemon, Harold Weisman,
Mrs. Jacob Schreier, Morris Ja-
cobs, Rabbi Leon Fram, Meyer
Suberin, Lawrence Crohn and
Sophie Schwartz.
Public relations committee
members include Harold Berry,
Rose Poskel, Israel Stashevsky,
David Levine and Molly Tron.
Harold Weisman heads a let-
ter and telegrams subcommittee
of the action for Palestine com-
mittee and Harry Schumer, the
automobile parade committee.
