Dr. Trude Weiss-Rosmorin
Fights for Jews' Survivol

Weiss-Rosmarin has become
something of an authority her-
self on philosophy and related
subjects. She is not averse to
disputing an issue even with a
world authority.
Under this heading comes her
feud with Sigmund Freud over
his book "Moses and Monthe-
ism," in which he claims that
the founder of the Jewish relig-
ion was an Egyptian and that

doubtedly it was with this in
mind that Dr. Weiss-Rosmarin
started the Jewish People's Li-
brary, a series of inexpensive
books on Jewish subjects.
The Jewish Spectator was
founded by Dr. Weiss-Rosmarin
and Tier husband in 1935, com-
mitted to a program for Jewish
survival. Later Dr. Rosmarin
left the editorship of the maga- F

Dr. Trude Weiss - Rosmarin,
whose favorite lecture topic is
"A Manifesto of Jewish Surviv-

standing books on Jewish
themes, and editor of the Jew-
ish Spectator, a leading national
Anglo-Jewish magazine, Dr.
Rosmarin has in little more than
16 years become the best known
Jewish lecturer in the United
States.
Born in Frankfort-am-Main,
Germany, Trude Weiss enjoyed
all the advantages that her suc-
cessful wine-merchant father,
Jacob Weiss, could give his fam-
ily. From childhood on her am-
bition was to be a scholar. She
studied at several German uni-
versities and received her Ph.D.
from Wuerzburg University, for

While studying Arabic in Ber-
lin she met, and won the friend-
ship and love of Dr. Aaron Ros-
marin, of New York City, who
was also interested in Arabic.
A week after she arrived in
New York, in 1931, they were
married.

Despite her career which de-
mands so much of her time and
takes her to an endless number
of out-of-the-way places Dr.
Weiss-Rosmarin can still find
time to devote to her family.
When she is not away on tour
she reads to her three-year-old
son Moshe every day, before
starting her round of profession-
al duties.
